A7 - Wednesday, April 6, 1983 - North Shore News 8 mailbox OPEN LETTER TO NV CITY COUNCIL I urge North Vancouver City council to cease its present course with regard to its employees; rehire those laid off, and reinstate those who have been demoted. That these staff reductions will result in a lowering of services to the community is obvious. The renting population of the City, who comprise some 59% of its citizens, will especially feel the impact of this lowering XA of services. Most tenants live in apartments and do not have their own back yards and therefore need decently maintained parks, sidewalks and streets. The result of council's recent actions will result in a lowering of the quality of life for these citizens in times when receations costing money become less of an alter- native. It is no secret that a serious recession covers the land and whether employer or employee, the ex- Don’‘t count on it! Dear Editor: How heartily all men of goodwill must share Mayor Humphreys’ desire to see an end to the current mini- uproar ignited by council's plans for Ambleside Park and its treatment of the Sager pub application. But, public critical outcry is likely a result of politicians failing to heed taxpayers’: quiet preliminary ap- proaches by personal letters and telephone calls. It is disappointing to learn that West Van _ taxpayers apparently are ill-informed, and council's plans in need of clarification through North Shore News’ letter columns. Do not those same taxpayers wholly pay for production and distribution of West Van Municipal News, a_ self-proclaimed “information brochure’? Though a blow to political vanity, it has to be under- stood by West Van’s ruling Parking is no problem OPEN LETTER TO W. VAN COUNCIL I am very pleased that council is taking a second run at the question of a pub in Dundarave, and wish to go on record as being totally in accord, not only with a pub in Dundarave, but with the entire pub concept that Sagers’ Tiddleycove Inn wall provide. As a grandmother of six, | cannot for the life of me see how the school behind would be adversely affected by a pub at this location. Daytime partrons in the main would be the business people going in for their pub lunches, or shoppers and those using the other community facilities. As for the evening hours. frankly, I cannot sec that 65 seats are going to pgencratc anywhere ncar 65 cars Most of, the chentele would be walk ins, and those driving would tn) many cases be those like myself who regularly) drop all their shopping dollars into the tls of Dundarave Those 66 plus% = who signed in favour of Sagers had faith that council would respect the wishes of the mayormty Provide us with a decent) place flor our sociahzing and we will prove that a drink can be con sumed with as much civility as ao cup of tea Needless to add, lam NOT in favour of a further survey (Mrs ) :kdaa Me Iatyre West Vancouver seven that unanimous praise cannot always be expected to greet actions and ideas emanating from City Hall.
