© B4 - Sunday, July 11, 1982 - North Shore News ~~~ EE sports| Grim Reapers top Primates PLAYOFFS ARE beginning in the Central Softball League, and the Grim Reapers are very happy about that. Not that death and destruction are part of the game, you understand. The Grim Reapers, the name of the Harvest restaurant team, just happen to- be the division leader for the North Shore, that’s all. The Central League is a small, little known league of eight teams divided into two divisions. What makes the league distinctive is that it is only open to restaurants, and only employees may play. On the North Shore, the Grim Reapers finished a short season with six wins and only one loss. Their nearest rivals were the Keg Prime Rib “Keg Primates”. Finishing third were the North Van Keg Blues, while the Bay Keg team of the Horseshoe Bay Keg’n'Cleaver brought up the rear. Preliminary playoff action between teams one and four and teams two and three was held yesterday. But North Shore fans can catch the division title match next Saturday if they want. Currently the game is slated for Griffin Park at 11:30 a.m. The winner goes on to play the second division champ. The second division features restaurants on the other side of the inlet, in- cluding Brannigan’s and Mother Tuckers. The Central League was formed in 1977. Tokeland A's lead Slowpitch © SUX WEEKS remain in the North Shore Slowpitch League season, but time is running out for basement dwellers Scorpions and Newcomers to gain some respectable stats. Out of five starts, Scor- pions have only one win while Newcomers have lost all eight of their games. At the other end of the standings, the Tokeland A's have two points and a game in hand on second place Squids for the lead. In last week’s play, the Ironhorse team played flawlessly against the Stingers, adding a win to their record as did the Squids over St. Alice Hotel. The Masterbatters are on a three-game winning streak which has eased them into third place as well. The Tokeland A’s squished the Squids 64 in their bid for first place. The Squids could have taken the game, but it seems to be a trend) for them to lose squeakers as three of their four losses have been by one run. Now that July is here, all Monday, Tuesday and Thursday games are being played at Griffin Park.
