Volunteer
skiers sought

THE NORTH Shore-based Physi-
cally Handicapped Winter Sports
Association is looking for able
bodied, intermediate skiers to vol-
unteer some time to ski with
paraplegic skiers.

These volunteers would act as
tetherers, skiing behind the sit-
skiers as they ski down the slope
on their sled.

The association has 65 skiers
and 50 volunteers signed up this
year from throughout the province
but still requires more volunteers.
The commitment could be as little
as one day this season or be at
more regular times.

bourhood House’s winter drop-in
sport activities.

Drop-in basketball is held Mon-
days, 7:30 to 10:20 p.m. House
membership is required.

Volleyball meets Sundays from 7
to 9p.m. for a $2.50 drop-in fee.

Badminton is offered every
Thursday from 8 to 10 p.m. for a
$2 drop-in fee.

In addition, house members can
bring their own equipment and use
the gym any time when it is not in
use.

NV coach nominated

NORTH VANCOUVER’S James
Miller is one of three finalists
nominated for 1989 Coach of the
Year in the Amateur Sports
Awards by Air Canada.

Miller has coached two athletes
to silver and bronze medals in
wrestling at the 1984 Olympic
Games.

A founding member of the Bur-
naby Mountain Wrestling Club,
Miller is the assistant coach of the
Simon Fraser University wrestling
team as well as the B.C. Wrestling
high performance director.

A total of 51 people were origi-
nally nominated for the awards.
The winners will be announced
Jan. 12 in Ottawa.
