8 — Sunday, July 25, 1999 — North Shore News Missing Headwaters Bob Faackin News Reporter THE search for two missing hikers ended happily late Friday after- noon when the 20-year- olds walked out of the forest near the bottom of Lynn Headwaters Regional Park. The North Vancouver men began their expedition at 1:15 p.m. Thursday. According to a hike plan filed with the _ ganger’s office, they were headed to Grouse Mountain on a) 16-kilometre trail through the Hanes Valley. The journey was expected to take eight hours. One of the males had hiked to Crown Pass in the Hanes Valley during the previous . weck, The men didn’t show up at home late Thursday, so North Shore Rescue was called at midnight to begin a search. There’s lots of snow above the 2,500-foot level and the trail rises a litte nore than 4,000 feet.” An RCMP helicopter was called in to conduct a thor- ough aerial search. Volunteers with search and rescue groups in Lions Bay and Coquitlam joined NSR in the operation. As many as 40 peopie were on the ground and in the air Friday afternoon. North Vancouver RCMP Const. In an unrelated incident on Tuesday, a teenage robber held “ap two boys at knife-point in’ the Safeway parking lot at Parkgate mall. Police said that the robber told “the boys to: “Up your sh**,” which means to give up money and valuables. - One of the boys handed “over $20 during the 9:30 p.m, incident.
