The local men’s soccer side pulled off its biggest win of the year on Sunday beating Premier League rivals Croatia S.C. 3-lat Kinsmen Field in North Vancouver. The victory sees Norvan leapfrog ahead of Croatia in the final standings and carns them a one game playoff with a Fraser Valley League team, with the winner going to the Province Cup. The Province Cup decides the amateur championship with the win- nee representing B.C. in the National Finals. Sixteen teams get Provincial berths. Pegasus $.C. and West Van Trollers have already clinched spots. Vancouver’s Westside F.C. are the favourites. Norvan’s season-ending charge is an incredible turn of events for the Gunter Frey-coached side, who start- ed the season with zero wins in nine games. Daggers were out all over the place as the team seemed destined for rele- gation back to Division One from where they had just come. wns Croatia fe The team used a total of 3) players to get through the rough spots and battled injury bugs from the very start. Norvan then went unbeaten in eight matches to litt the club off the doormat and put itself in a position to challenge for a Province Cup berth. The team was stretched to the limit Sunday versus a strong Croatia side, but managed to pull off the win. The locals were up 2-0 after 15 minutes when Lane O’Seen and Ted Ulrich scored just three minutes apart stunning the visitors. Croatia then got ons back after 20 minutes and had Coll rl Norvan on their heels at times, espe- ciafly early in the second half. Sean Fetterly came on as a sub for Norvan and brought grit into the match which helped fire up his team- mates — he was a little too fired up himself and was yanked after he came close to being red carded. Jon Vendargon ended the game in the last minute heading home a rebound to give Norvan the win and a chance at the Provincials. No date has been set for Norvan’s playoff versus the Fraser Valley team.
