inquiring reporter THERE'S no doubt it was a gold medal run. Nor is there much likelihood of marijuana enhancing the performance of an athlete who needs adrena- line and high speed for a medal-winning finish. But after all is said and done, there still remains some controversy about whether or not Whistler snowboarder Ross Kcbagliati deserved to kcep his medal after he tested positive for trace amounts of marijuana in hic system. Rules are rules, and whether he smokes it himself, or hangs out with those why du he was over the limit allowed by the international ski federation (FIS), the body governing snowboarding at the Olympics. Would Canadians have supported the athlete in question so strongly had he been from another country? It’s questionable. But breathe easy, he makes a worthy role model for young people after all. Rebagliati said he gave up pot when he found out there was a possibility he’d be going to Nagano. Any athlete who dedicates his life to his sport, and makes lifestyle changes to do it, deserves our admiration and respect.
