part in the Scarlet Riders
Challenge will attend a
ceremony with native
leaders on Sunday, May 5
at 2 p.m. in the Squamish
Nation Recreation Centre
at 100 Capilano Rd.

The Scarlet Riders
Challenge is a national bike
relay to promote healthier
lifestyles and Canadian pride.

Members of first nations
communities across Canada
have created satchels for the
riders in which goodwill mes-
sages from the public wiil be
placed.

North Vancouver RCMP
Constables Julie de Decker
and Whitney Benoit will tour
with the Scarlet Riders for
three days.

Const. Catherine Galliford
said that the public is welcome
to give the relay cyclists writ-
ten messages of goodwill con-
cerning health and Canadian
national pride.

The cyclists are slated to
stop in 400 communities along
their journey.

The message satchels are
transferred to new relay riders
at the provincial orders.

The relay is slated to be
completed on July 26 in
Newfoundland.

At that time, the goodwill
messages will be delivered to a
federal government represen-
tative.

The Scarlet Riders
Challenge began on May 3 in
Victoria.

The challenge is part of the
SummerActive 96
ParticipAction program.

A core group of cleven
Mounties will travel in the
B.C. leg of the relay.

The B.C. Jeg of the journey
is slated to be completed on
May {5 at the B.C. border
west of Lake Louise.
