Wotten’s doctor and a North Shore Health occupational therapist wrote statements supporting his medical need for a scooter. Social Services denied Wotten’s request in February, July and again last weck without anyone from the govermnent bothering to examine him. Wotten was denied the scooter request because he “can walk and use public transportation,” according to | the social services ministry. North Vancouver resident Norm Brown read about Wotten’s plight and offered to give him a scooter for free. The scooter, which belonged to Brown's grandfather, requires some servicing. A new scooter costs about $3,000. Wotten’s new wheels, which: are about 10 years old, need $400 ° worth of work. The job includes the.‘ installation of a new battery pack before Wotten can use it. Wotten has tried out the scooter” despite its problems.
