SALVATION ARMY Kettle drive to begin THIS CHRISTMAS the Salvation Army kettles are really cooking. Beginning Nov. 24, the familiar Army Kettles will ‘sing’? on busy street corners. The monies col- lected will give food, clothing, shelter and hope to those in need at Christmas and to support the social services programs year round. Over the holidays, the Salvation Army helps 34,600 people. Nearly 5,000 Christmas good baskets and vouchers are being prepared for needy families in Greater Van- couver, In addition to the 300 meals | served each day, all year-round, at Vancouver’s Harbour Light, 2,000 More than 18,000 meals and 6,000 nights of lodging will be provided to men trying to conquer drug addiction and personal prob- lems. Four thousand toys and dolls are given to parenis in need to gladden the hearts of their children on Chiistmas morning. To enhance the Christmas Ap- pea!, a direct mail campaign was launched — 130,000 households will receive a Christmas Appeal letter requesting that they share men will be served Christmas din- @ ner by volunteers on Christmas Day. Volunteers wil! distribute 16,000 ! sunshine bags of treats and gifts to } nursing homes and senior citizens’ centres.
