Collision sends three to hospital CHARGES ARE pending against the driver of a car which went out of control on the Squamish Highway two kilometres north of Horseshoe Bay Jan. 7 and crashed head on into an oncoming vehi- cle just after 11:30 a.m. The driver and two people in the oncoming vehicle were sent to Lions Gate Hospital. A West Vancouver Police spokesperson said the driver of the car wes driving southbound and aliegedly overtook a vehicle on a double solid line. The passing car was allegedly moving too fast for a curve in the road, struck a guard rail and careered into oncoming traffic in the northbound lane. The vehicle struck a 1981 four-door Buick sedan. The driver of the Buick, Victor Salling, and his passenger Claire Salling are at LGH in stable condition. The driver of the other car was taken to LGB and later released. NV man jailed for theft AN 18-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man was sentenced Jan. 4 in North Vancoever provincial court to seven days in jail after he pleaded guilty to theft under $1,000. Randy Alan Wanek was originally charged with theft under $1,000 and possession of stolen property in connection with Oct. 7 incideats in which Visine was stolen from Canada Safeway and 2 stolen 18-speed bicycle was seized by police. Appearing before Judge J.K. Shaw, Wanek pleaded guilty to the theft charge. A stay of proceedings was subsequently entered in the possession of stolen property charge laid against him. In addition to the jail sentence, Wanck was placed on probation for six months. Man guilty of drunken boating A 27-YEAR-OLD Edmonton man pleaded guilty in West Van- couver provincial court Jan. 3 to a charge of impaired operation of @ vessel. The charge stemmed from an Aug. 2, 1987 incident. West Van- coaver Police received information from the assistant harbor master at Horseshoe Bay that a boat bad been observed striking another boat and the governmen! wharf at Horseshoe Esy at sp- proximately 5:45 p.m. Police subsequently identified the driver of the suspect boat. Breathalyser samples showed readings three times the legal! limit. Kenseth Vern Croswell received an $800 fine and a one-year driver's licence suspension. Seniors receive $33,190 grant NORTH VANCOUVER'S North Shore Senior Weliness Group has received 2 $33,190 federal New Horizons grant to help the organization operate its Keep Weil program. Under that program, which operates from three North Shore community centres, over 100 senior volunteers train and offer a weekly program of leciures on health issves and nutrition.
