Highwaymen lambush Dukes WEST VANCOUVER | Hillside Highwaymen battled back from an opening night loss to win the re- cent Howe Sound AA Basketball Tournament. The Highwaymen thumped defending champion Windsor Dukes 61-53 in the tournament's Feb. 28 finai inatch to end the Dukes’ two-year reign as North Shore Champions. The championship win for the Highwaymen followed the team’s 68-65 victory aver Windsor Thurs- day night. With a 14 win, one loss regular season record, Windsor was favored to successfully defend its title. Hillside stumbled into the tour- nament on Feb. 24 dropping a 58-52 decision to the Carson Graham fagles, but came storming back. Hosted by Windsor, the AA tournament attracted top basket- ball teams from the North Shore and Howe Sound areas, Eagles dribbie to CARSON Graham Eagles women’s basketball team advanced to the 1986 B.C. Carson Graham won their open- ing round match against Richmond Colts, but were beaten by New SWIMMING Westminster in the semi-finals. But the Carson team bounced back with a victory over Prince of Wales to place in the consulation final. The Eagles travelied to the Mennonite Education Institute this week {0 compete in the ‘AA’ B.C. championships, which began Wednesday and wrapped up Saturday. Frisby qualifies for the commonwealth games WEST VANCOUVER'S Sarah Frisby qualified for Canada’s Commonwealth Games on Feb. 28 with second place finishes in two events at swimming trials held in Montreal. Frisby, who swims with Van- couver’s Canadian Dolphins Swim Club, finished second in the 400- metre individual medley and 400-metre freestyle events with times of 4:56:31 and 4:19:28 respectively. The 16-year-old’s 400-freestyle time was a personal best. Other North Shore swimmers have also had good placings at the Montreal trials, with 20-year-old Rod Archibald, who also swims with the Dolphins, finishing 13th in the 400-metre individual medley and Steve Ingo, 19, a member of North Vancouver’s Chena Swim Club, finishing 16th in the 200- metre backstroke. Archibald and times of 4:39:01 their events, Nine North Shore swimmers competed in Montreal. The Montreal trials ended on March 4.
