ARGYLE’S MATH Department includes 12 teachers with experience of up to 22 years. Itis the department's belief that because Math 1s sequen- ual in nature teachers should teach a varity of grade levels. Over the years course of- ferings have expanded to in clude locally develope courses such as Consumef- Math 11, Math 7-8, apfid Trades Math 11. The 4n- troduction of computers has allowed Argyle students a valuable experience with changing technology. Argyle supplements tts course material with enrich- ment and in-depth analysis of traditional topics. This may partially explain Argyle’s reputation as a school witha solid math program. Each year, many students participate tn voluntary math contests offered in all grade levels. Over the years, Argyle has consistently placed in the top 10 in the province and in 1984 placed fourth. Last year’s results were previewed by B.N. Moyls, Head of U.B.C.’s) Math Department. His comments: **L should like to congratulate you on the extremely fine performance that’ your students achieved in the re- cent Euclid Mathematics Ex- 2+2 and beyond amination. This year, 11 of your students received letters of commendation for their performance.”’ Argyle has reason to be proud of 1s Math Program, but, for all of our proud moments, for all the satisfac- tion we've had so far, much work needs to be done. There are problems. For example the Provincial restraint pro- gram has made it necessary lo program non-specialized teachers into math courses — an area which may be as un- comtortable for them as it would be for us to enter their disciplines. Despite the problems we face our goal continues to be the pursuit of excellence. Perms for Students till the end of Oct. 20% orF Receive a Free make-up application with every perm from MAKING FACES.
