B10 - Wednesday, April 28, 1982 - North Shore News Helping to smooth the way Any BCAA member who travels a lot -- or even those who do so occasionally - should get to know the people in BCAA'’s Reser- vations and _ International Travel Services. Every one of the eleven BCAA offices in the province offers these valuable services. Members planning to take a trip who have had their itinerary worked out by Auto Trip Planning can take the next step to happy motoring by asking about the hotel reservation service offered to travellers. Members can select hotels and motels along their route ~ from Northern Canada to Southern Mexico -- and BCAA will make reser- vations for them. The International Services staff assists members planning an overseas holiday or business trip by providing all manner of aids to make the trip more pleasant. They will help members obtain a Carnet de Passage which is, in effect, a “passport” for the car and is useful for the person planning to drive his or her own car across borders in, say, Latin America. Car insurance to provide coverage in a foreign country is also available to BCAA members through overseas travel services, along with International Driving Permits, European maps, travel guide books and reciprocal cards that will give an entree to auto clubs in other parts of the world. If members are planning to camp on a European tnp, International Services will supply a permit they can use at campsites for iden- ufication instead of using a passport. BCAA can even make sure members have a place to pitch their tent or park their trailer or van by reserving in advance. No matter how members travel or what the destintion, BCAA is there to help smooth the way. ONE OF THE fleet of 40 emergency road service tow and service vehicles serving the Vancouver area. FROM TAYLORMOTIVE DON'T DRIVE ALONE The BCAA service greatest demand by members is the Emergency Road Service -- ERS, (for short). Begun in April 1962, ERS has grown from just over 17,000 calls for assistance in its first year of operation to over 192,000 calls in 1981 in the Lower Mainland alone. Of those calls, just under 32,000 came from North and West Vancouver. Designed to come to the aid of stranded motorists 24 hours a day, ERS dispat- chers have recently been equipped with an up-to-the- minute computer system that helps to speed the Nearest available driver to the scene of the trouble. BCAA members always know that assistance rides with them and can be called upon in time of need. And that feeling is worth a lot more than the cost of a membership. If you are not yet a member, ask about it at the North Shore office, 1605 Hamilton Avenue or at your nearest BCAA office and learn of the many valuable benefits you receive. We're BCAA approved!
