West Van minor hockey
players from 6 to 17 years of
age will be out in full force
Saturday, January 30, doing
their bit for the community
as they skate for pledges in
the West Vancouver Minor
Hockey Association’s annual
Skate-o-thon.

The Skate-o-thon is

WVMHA’'s only fund-raising
event of the year to finance
its seven-month long hockcy
program, as well as help
finance improvements to the
West Van Arena.

According to Roy Smith,
President of WVMHA, “the
Skate-o-thon has almost
become a citizenship part of

our hockey program, instil-
ling a sense of community in
our kids.

“We've got a good facility
and it’s up to the kids to play
their part in keeping it that
way.

Through monies raised
through Skate-o-thon
WVMHA has assisted with

WV MINOR HOCKEY
SKATES FOR FUNDS

the $18,000 installation of
tempered glass around the
arena playing surface and,
with generous support from
Park Royal Shopping
Centre, has assisted with a
$6,000 hockey scoreboard
for the arena.

Wrestlers going to Games

SIXTEEN North Shore
wrestlers will be going to the
B.C. Winter Games in Trail
from March 4 to 7.

The wrestlers, all at-
tending local high schools,
qualified for the Vancouver

‘zone in a competition held at
Windsor Secondary School
last week.

The top two competitors
in each weight class qualified
for the Games.

North Shore qualifiers are:
