small adults who sprouted into full-
sized ones, and boys in their teen
years copied their fathers, not one
another.

A new “intermission” period
was evident during the “40s and
‘50s, which had its first signals in
fushion.

Britain’s “teddy boys” began
copying Edwardian styles, design-
ing the first clothing for youth,

However, they quickly lost their
taste for copying any type of adult
garments, and discarded anything
associated with a suit look in favor
of very casual attire.

Elizabeth 1, noblemen were known
to have well-rounded personalities,
capable of everything from great
poetry to piracy and seduction of
damsels to seamanship on a grand
scale.

But these versatile, courageous
men dressed themselves in clothing
that was rather effeminate.

A generation before this, men
had been padded into giant versions
of themselves. Elizabethans’ bod-
ies, though, shrank into outfits that
bound and shrivelled their chest and
shoulders in narrow, tight-fitting
