Motsons most of the way, then
scored 10 points in. the final 90
seconds, but bowed 81-76 in a
well-played inter-City Senior ‘‘B”
men’s basketball league game at
Prince of Wales school.

In City League play, the North
Shore Winter Club midget ‘‘A”’
hockey team clipped the North
Vancouver Rec Centre 4-2, with
Barry Berezowsky scoring a pair
of goals and Randy Buchamer and
Mike Warbo adding singles.

Ranked No. 2 on the North
Shore, the Carson Graham Eagles
defeated Hillside Highwaymen at
the buzzer 54-53 in the kick-off
game of the North Shore senior
boys’ high school basketball
season.

Park offers winter hiking tips

WINTER HIKERS at Lynn
Headwater Regional Park in
North Vancouver can best enjoy a
wilderness experience by observing
afew safety tips,

“The most important tip is to
complete the two-part registration
form at the park kiosk before you
start out,’’ says Mitch Sokalski,
GYRD park sunerintendent. ‘On
return, deposit the second part in
the kiosk box. This simple action
lets our staff know you are safe
and sound. If we know hikers
haven’t returned, we notify the
RCMP and search and rescue. ac-
tion could be initiated.’’

To date, only two of the 26
groups searchec for in the park
had registered.

“Hikers should also be aware
that the shift to Standard Time
means less daylight,'’ adds
Sokalshi. ‘This is a wilderness
park, and subject to sudden dense
fog and rain storms.”*

‘Always tell someone where you
are going. Remember to wear
good walking shoes, and carry
rain gear, food and a spare set of
warm clothes,

The park’s winter hours are 8
a.m. to 5 p.m. Overnight camping
is not allowed and vehicles must
be out of the park by 5 p.m.
