Question: A friend of mine is moving (to British Columbia (B.C.) from Gutario. He will be bringing his car with him. How should he go about changing his licence ard insurance? I've siso heard that cars now have to be tested for air pollution. How does this work? By law, all vehi- cles being registered in the pro- vince of B.C. for the first time must be seen and inspected. The Autoplan agent will verify the serial! numbers, examine the previous registration documents and take note of any damage on the car. This is a measure to prevent out-of-province stolen vehicles from being registered in B.C., and to avoid insurance claims for previous damage. He will have to buy a set of B.C. licence pilates for the car as well as insurance coverage. He may be eligible for a safe driver's discount to 4 maximum of 40% if he has had four con- secutive years of driving without making an insurance claim. To prove his eligibility for the discount he must present a letter from his previous insurance com- pany stating that he meets the dis- count requirements. If he arrives without the letter, he can complete a deciaration of entitlement form as long as he provides the Insurance Corpora- tion of B.C. (ICBC) with a letter from his insurance company in Ontario confirming his declaration within three months. You are right that vehicles have to be tested under the new AirCare program.
