A new Super Circuit Ski Fit program is being held at the West Vancouver Recreation Centre on Tuesday ‘nights at 6 p.m, starting this September. It will run up to the opening of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains in early December. The circuit is a series of exercise stations that prepare your legs for the demands of the sport. The program has been developed by members of the B.C. ski team and can benefit both cross-country and downhill skiers. Each exercise station, which lasts 30 to 60 seconds, is individually adapted to any fitness level. The 60-minute program includes a warm-up and stretch at the end of the class. You do not need to be a West Vancouver fitness member to attend the speciality program. But if you do become a fitness member, your name will be entered in the Whistler Getaway Draw, a Whistler holiday for two. With the 4-2 win, Capilano men’s team pulled into a three-way tie for first place with British Col- umbia Institute of Technology and Malaspina College. “It’s nice and tight this year,” coach Joe Iacobellis said of the running. An exhibition game against UBC saw the Capilano men lose with a 3-1 score. “That was a very good result,” lacobellis noted of the contest. “They’re at the moment in first place in the Western Canadian university league.” The league shield went to the Cap men’s team for its plus-20 goals for-against tally — the men scored 27 goals in games with only seven goals against them. In exhibition play recently, the men’s team was downed 83-75 by visiting the Columbia College squad from Clearbrook. At halftime, the score was 50-27 for Columbia College, but Capilano College with the help of highscorers Tony Nelson and Si Huynh — each with 13 points — battled back to lose by a slim eight-point margin. Columbia’s Rob Schmidt was the game highscorer with 33 points. Against the Capilano College grad team, the Capilano men’s squad lost 92-65. “They just had too much expe- rience,’’ coach Neil Chester ex- plained of the game. ‘‘They were a really strong team,"’ Nelson again came up the highscorer with 14 points for Capilano. On the grads’ side, Greg- Porter and Mark Marter were the top scorers with 18 points each. Capilano’s women grads did not fare as well as did their male counterparts. The women’s grad team fell to a 72-47 lose against the Cap players with Capilano main- taining a lead throughout. Crystal Caldwell racked up 25 points for Capilano and Lisa Tarasewich put 17 points on the scoreboard. Sherry] Sturmy was top grad scorer with 16 points. MeDonaid takes fronman title NORTH VANCOUVER'S Les McDonald for the fifth consecutive year finished first in the over-50 category at the Irouman Tristhion at Kona, Hawaii, recently. McDonald set a new veteran's world record of 10 hours, 55 minutes in the event, which in- cludes a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike race and a 26.2-mile run.
