A life-sized replica of the . NASA space shuttle Colum- bia under a starlit black sky will dominate a display of aerospace technology in the PNE Forum. _— The fully detailed reproduction, 122 feet long with a 75 foot wing span, is the only one of its kind in North America. It includes a full size replica of the Canadarm in the shuttle’s payload bay. Other displays in the show are a prototype of the mann- ed maneuvering unit used by astronauts to make the first untethered’ space walk, 2 moon rock, and examples of the latest in aerospace development. The line up of top acts at the Coliseum opens with Beatlemania Saturday, August 18, followed by Paul Simon Friday, August: 24, Neil Young Saturday, August 25, cabaret pops concerts August 30 and 31, climaxed by Elton John Saturday, September 1. For a $5 ticket fairgoers get 14 chances to win a 2,000 sq.ft. home and one of seven- teen GM cars, trucks and custom vans including a red Corvette valued at over $30,000. The Miss PNE pageant, largest and longest running pageant in Canada, offers more to the winner for 1984-85. In addition to $1,000, Miss PNE wins the use of a Camero 228 throughout her reign, a trip for two to Hawaii, a gold watch, a season’s ski pass and many other prizes. Prize money is also up for entrants in Canada’s biggest summer agriculture show. A total of more than $250,000 will be won by top breeders and competitors in horse, beef, dairy, sheep, goat and swine shows. Loggers from around the world will compete for over $34,000 at the PNE timber show. Talented entertainers get their chance for fame and glory in the B.C. Per- formers’s Showcase, and there are new competitions for dairy producers and B.C. wineries. Special event days and dis- count admissions are another way the PNE will woo visitors into the grounds.
