A8-Wednesday, February 13, 1980 - North Shore News Chuck Cook, Conservative candidate in North Van- couver-Burnaby, has listed positive measures planned by the Clark government which have been held up from becoming law by the unexpected federal election called in December after the defeat of the government's budget. In a statement to The News Cook said the budget itself included the following initiatives: —A refundable $40 tax election countdown lection ‘killed’ Tory benefits credit to shelter lower and middle income families from higher energy prices. —Deduction from income tax of salaries paid to spouses working in small unincarperated businesses. —$80-a-week employment tax credits to encourage employers to create 105,000 jobs for young people and 15,000 jobs for native people, the handicapped and female re-entrants into the labor force. Among other Clark government measures cited by Cook as having been killed by the election call were bills to provide $375 in tax credits to homeowners for mortgage interest and property taxes; to extend veterans’ pension benefits to surviving spouses and children; to exempt 70,000 Canadian firms from ex- pensive government paperwork; and to establish tough new safety measures for the transportation of dangerous goods. Meindl campaigns on socred princip! In a statement on his participation in the current federal election Poldi Meindl, running under the federal Social Credit banner in North Vancouver- Burnaby, says his candidacy is based on the old concept “if you know what's right but refuse to speak of it, history will punish you for sure.” The 52-year-old Baptist deacon and former mining exploration surveyor who immigrated from Germany in 1959 says Social Credit principles are and remain “unassailable”. The Social Credit policy of interest-free financial ad- ministration, he maintains, . will guarantee the economic future of Canada — adding that the prosperity of British Columbia depends on “genuine federal cooper- ation”. “The time has come,” Meind! declares, “where people of loyalty, integrity and specia! knowledge must allow for their personal involvement in the awesome task of returning our nation to its deserved state of prospenty and dignity.” RSP OPTIONS.
