Schools are being upgraded, renovated, and expanded, so that portable classrooms can be phased out. Last vear, said District 44 sccretary-treasurer Phil Turin, 10 or 11 portable were eliminated. ; Some $17 million worth of projects are currently under way across North Vancouver. Some work was completed over the summer, while others will continue for several months. See More page 5 jeck replacement to begin on Lions Gate THE on-again, off-again deck replacement process for the Lions Gate Bridge is on again. The British Columbia Transportation Financing Authority (BCTFA) announced Friday that replacement of the deck sections will begin on Friday, Sept. 8. . . . Weather permitting, the bridge and causeway will be closed from 10 p.m, on Sept. 8 until 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11. During this full-weekend closure construction crews will lower the first few old deck sections from the bridge and lift new ones into place. During the closure, traffic will be rerouted to the Second Narrows Bridge and SeaBu ; ; Success of the initial weekend closure will determine the schedule and duration of future September closures.
