Known formerly as Hollyburn Gospel Chapel, the church began in the summer of 1923 and is one of the oldest on the North Shore. It is an independent, evangelical church whose roots are with the Christian Brethren. On Sunday afternoon, Nov. 13, the main sanctuary was crowded for a thanksgiving service and reu- nion, where there were repre- sentatives ranging from the °20s and '30s to the more recent times. Michael Ingham of St. Francis-in-the Wood Anglican Church takes up a five-year appointment as principal secretary to the Primate. Based in Toronto, the Primate, Archbishop Michael Peers, is the . head of.the Anglican Church. of Canada — the counterpart of the Archbishop of Canterbury in England. REV. MICHAEL INGHAM ...-: starts position as principal secre- tary to the Primate in January. Ingham’s duties will include the research and preparation of mate- rials that are to be used by the Primate in his teaching roles and speaking engagements. “*Peers is becoming increasingly recognized around the world as an outstanding person,” said Ingham. “‘He’s a real ambassador for Canada.” Ingham noted that the Primate — who is also fluent in French, German and Russian — was recently featured in a CBC documentary series, preaching in Russian in a cathedral in Moscow. One of Ingham’s first oppor- tunities to travel with Peers will be to the international gathering of Primates that will be held in Cyprus in April. ‘It: will be a wonderful opportunity for me to meet the Archbishop of Canter- bury and Desmond Tutu,” en- thused Ingham. Although Ingham says he is looking forward to travelling .. around the world, working with Peers and seeing the church in ac- tion at the international level, he emphasizes “‘I eventually want to come back to the West Coast ....
