Don’t take money or valuables to hospital Warning comes after several thefts at Lions DUE to a number of thefts from within Lions Gate Hospital recently, the North Skore Health Region is reminding patients and visitors to take precautions with their valuables and personal belongings when in the facility. The thefts, imainly from patients receiving treatment at LGH, have led the Health Region to increase awareness of the issue within the com- munity and among. staff. Patients and visitors are reminded of the following when in the facility or any building with high pedestrian traffic: B never leave a wallet, purse, keys or other valuables unat- tended at any time; @ do not piace a wailet, purse or other valuables in a locker or cupboard that does nor have a secure lock; $8 do not place a purse, jack- et, pack or other item on a chair or hanger and walk away — even for a few sec- onds; @ if being admitted to the hospital, even if just fora few hours, people are encouraged to leave valuables with « trusted relative or friend rather than in an unattended cupboard or bedside drawer. This includes keys to the per- son's home. A secure safe is also avail- able for patients to use dur- ing their stay if requested. This is a service of particular value to Emergency patients who may not have made arrangements with a relative or friend prior to admittance. SEVENTH ANNUAL An average of 160,000 people (excluding staff) enter the hospital every year, yet there were fewer than 50 incidents reported last year. A series of notices remind- ing patients and visitors to take care of their belongings while in’ the hospital are being placed throughout the building. Hospital security will continue to closely mon- itor patient areas, and staff has been advised to report any unusual or suspicious activity inmediately. The photo ID for all North Shore Health Region staff should also assist in reducing inci- denis. The photo cards identify the staff member, their posi- tion and role within) the region, and are being phased in over the course of the next few weeks.
