Club Adagio hosts rhythmic cymnastic prov. championships THE B.C. provincial championships for rhythmic gymnastics. were held at Capilano College’s Sport- splex on April 11 and hosted by the Club Adagio. The results were as follows: Provincial champions: Senior: Camille Martens (level seven), .Lori Fung Vancouver Rhythmic Gymnastic Club (VRGC);: Megan Arnold, (level - six), Club Adagio; Junior: North Shore’s Kimberley Harburn, (VRGC); Novice Level 4: North Shore’s Linda Bernath, (VRGC). Individual medals won by North Shore residents included: Novice Level 4: Linda Bernath, (VRGC), gold in rope, hoop and bail. Junior Level: Kimberley Harburn, (YRGC), gold in hoop and clubs, silver (tie) in ball, aid bronze (tie) in ribbon. Megan Oakey, (VRGC), bronze in hoop. Junior group winner was VRGC that included Harburn, Oakey and Lauren Rak. Club Adagio won the novice group. Durward named UBC's top female athlete in °9] NORTH VANCOUVER’S Lori Durward, a 19-year- old two-time Canadian In- tercollegiate Athletic Union’s (CIAV) all-Cana- dian in both cross-country and track and field, was awarded the Marilyn Pom- fret Trophy last month as UBC’s top female athlete. Last fall Durward won the Canada West Cross Country Championships and, two weeks later, led the UBC women’s team to a bronze medal finish at the CIAU Championships in Victoria. In March of 1991, she repre- sented Canada at the World Cross Country Championships in Ant- werp, Belgium. At the March CIAU Indoor Track and Field Championships in Winnipeg, Durward won gold in the 1,500 metres, bronze in 1,000 and was a member of the silver medal-winning 4x800-metre relay team. She won a gold medal! in junior 1,500 metres at the Pan American Games in Cuba last summer and is currently ranked fifth in the world in junior 1,500 metres. The second-year nutritional sciences student was B.C. Junior Athletics Female Athlete for 199] and was a runner-up for Sport B.C.’s 1991 University Athlete of the Year. The Marilyn Pomfret Trophy is awarded to a female student pres- ently participating on a UBC team who has distinguished herself in competition.
