It was raining as I climbed aboard the Bastion City last week, so the hot, complimentary coffee Jeaturing and blankets were very welcome. It doesn’t take long to get comforta- ble on board, even in the worst weather; you can go below deck to view the proceedings or stay on the covered upper deck, which has clear side panels that are raised in inclement weather. We even experienced a bout of hail, but after being under way for only a matter of minutes the clouds cleared and the sun came out. The first leg of the trip took us through Newcastle Island Passage, and what you don’t know about the area you’re sure to find out from your narrator, Bob Little- john. Your trip is sprinkled with tid- bits of local history, geography, demographics, economics and culture with hardly a pause for the three hours you’re on board.
