NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP are investigating a sexual assault
that occurred during the early hours of Sept. 19 in the 300-block
East 3rd Street area of North Vancouver.
A 28-year-old female was sexually assaulted in the incident.
Police investigators are looking for a suspeet that is described as
being a white male in his exrly 20s.

$3.1m contract

A $3.1-MILLION contruct for the third phase of an_ aerial
photography project in Indonesia was signed Friday by Capilano
MP Mary Collins on behalf of External Relations and International
Development Minister Monique Landry.

The Canadian International Development Agency — McElhan-
ney Geosurveys contrac! will provide accurate topographical maps
to help plan resource development on the Indonesian islands of
Java, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Bali, Madura and others.

Started in 1979, the project is slated for completion in late 1989,

‘In a resource-based country like Canada, we understand that
accurate and detailed maps are essential for the development of
natura) resources,’’ Collins said. “Canada can share its expertise in
this field with Indonesia.”’

Pipeline to serve

pulp mills

THE VANCOUVER Island natural gas pipeline expected to be
built next’ year will service Squamish and Surshine Coast
municipalities and pulp mills at Woodfibre and Port Mellon, fed-
eral, provincial and private sector officials announced Thursday.

Air emissions from Port Mellon have been the target of iocal
environmental concerns. And West Vancouver’s Terry Jacks is
currently suing the provincial government over its decision to ap-
prove a revised air pollution permit for the mill.

But the gas pipeline project will provide the mills with ‘clean gas
from Peace River rather than dirty oil from outside Canada,”
Premier Bill Vander Zalm said. ‘‘(It) will provide guidelines for
future discussions for developing British Columbia energy projects
which show economic and environmental benefits.””

The $485-million pipeline project will receive a full environmen-
tal review before construction,

Federal Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Marcel Masse
said of the pipeline project: ‘‘Natural gas offers industry, including
the pulp mills, an environmentally clean fuel.’’

Originating in Coquitlam, the pipeline will serve the Howe
Sound and Sunshine Coast communities up to Powell River, where
it will cross to Courtenay.

On Vancouver Island, the pipeline will service communities from
Campbell River to Victoria.

of vehicle break-ins and thefts.

they lock their vehicles when they leave them. While not a
