Thank you for your positive,
supportive editorial concerning the
evening college offerings at
Capilano College. At a time when
there is so much concern about
education, it is wonderful to have
the press commend the efforts of
Capilano College to meet the needs
of the public.

Another way the college at-
tempts to serve is in the offering of
accelerated programs, such as the
accelerated retail management
program and the accelerated com-
puter program. Both of these pro-
grams are designed for mature
retraining adults who need new
skills to reach their career goals,
and have to work at the same time
they are retraining.

These programs take only 10
months and run three days a week.

Another threat
from the US.

It’s ironic that a vocal minority
of Canadians are so opposed to
free trade on the grounds that it
would jeopardize our cultural
autonomy, yet have remained
silent while Canada has adopted
every lunatic fad and social craze
to have come down the pike from
our southern neighbor.

One such sociological abomina-
tion, so-called affirmative action,
originated in the U.S. as an after-
math of the civil rights movement.

As described so graphically by
Doug Collins in his Sept. 4 col-
umn, the results of its application
can be Kafka-esque. Presumably,
this institutionalized racial
discrimination has been borrowed
