teachers known as Homework
Helper kicks of its second season
this week to assist local students
stumped by tough questions.

Now into its second season, the
Shaw Cable televison segment
receives about 30 math and 25
English questions a session, said
homework helper Louise Gallazin.

Aimed at students in Grade 6 to
Grade 10, the one-hour show and
the associated telephone service
have been on the air helping stu-
dents since February 1986.

‘It?s mostly grammar but some
literary terms,’ Gallazin said of
the show’s English-related calls.
“What is a protagonist — that sort
of question."’

Running Wednesday night from
7 p.m. to 8 p.m., the program is
scheduled to expand after Easter to
include a mew segment for
science-related questions.

“Generally we are helping them
with their homework cuestions,’’
explained Sutherland English
teacher Gallazin. ‘‘It will either be
from a worksheet or an assign-
ment. We can be there (to help)
where their regular teacher isn’t.’

All members of the squadron are
volunteers. But they receive mili-

contribute to training, administra-
