Deep sea submersible
plunges into research

Rover represents the deep
water mark in one-man
underwater travel and
research technology.

Capable of reaching depths of
up to 3,000 feet, the $1 million
retail solo submersible is the most
advanced in the world, and was
developed by the North Van-
couver-based company that has
been pioneering underwater
technology for the past 20 years.

Can-Dive has thus far built only
one Rover, which is currently be-
ing leased to various research
companies. Cost to lease it for a
day is $1,800.

The Rover is powered by two
sets of lead-acid batteries and has a

top speed of one knot. Its life sup-
pert system can keep a man alive
for a week.

A life-sized model of the Rover
is currently on display at the
Canada Pavilion.
