Ltd., the research and development arm of International Ltd., Canada’s largest tug and _ barge company, based in North Vancouver, B.C. has recently signed several contracts with American towing firms hcensing them to produce the revolutionary new Hydrahft Skegs for use on barges. The new skeg is an acrodynamically shaped set of fins fitted to the stern of the barge providing it with directional stabihty. This new design reduces the drag of conventional skeg designs allowing the same barge to be towed with a 25-35% reduction in hull resistance and the accompanying Saving in fuel. Zidell Explorations Inc., Knappton Maritime Corp. and Riedel Intl Inc., are three American firms who have recently undertaken construction projects for six new barges, fitted with Hydrahift, Skegs, five of which are now in operation.
