Bennett bowevwer has ar bitranly fmited all cx- pendiure to 10% regardless of needs. Limiting § ex- pendsture om parks and but -. lima on transit and edacanion ss nothing short of outragecoas. He says it creates jobs, but jobs could be created wi more benefit to British Columbia by = subsidizing housing. Not only would this create jobs and build much needed housing, but it would directly provide stimulus to the shattered forest industry. The benefits therefore would remain in British columbia imstead of going to Japan. Bennett talks about restramt, but he has no sense of priorities. Pauli Hundai North Vancouver School budget cuts won't help us os road become tn- creasingly concerned about the growing belief in Wes Vancouver that the school system t a service for a minority to which = the school budget musi be cut in order to lower homeowner taxes. This is an attitude which I bebeve ts in simple students and for the future in general. It will not help tax- burdened property owners becanse the students coming oot of West Vancouver school will be cven less equipped to understand the world. It will not heip taxpayers because economic conditions will worsen with young adults less and less able to cope with and solve the complex problems around them. The young people who should be creating solutions will merely become part of the probiems. The small amount of money the new school budget returns to the tax- payers will soon be much more than taken away again through the need to deal with worsening economic and social conditions caused to a large extent by a previous generation unfit to cope with tomorrow. A school board making a genume effort to improve the school system will help to solve the problems in the furare of the community and will benefit the taxpayer much more than a school board solving = superficial present tax burdens with no understandmg of the long term economic and social results of their actions.
