Seymour to get Yet another radio com- munications tower is to be built on Mount Seymour. Greater Vancouver Regional Disrict has granted a lease to Canadian General Electric for a 2.62 acre site on Mount Seymour for the purpose of erecting an ultra high-frequency radio tower. This tower will be used for mobile radio service. West Vancouver police who spent twenty minutes securing the belongings of an accused impaired driver were judged not to have caused an excessive delay in getting the person to the police station for breathalyser testing. The judgement came in the trial of Michael Blond- field, aged 18, of 1112 Millstream Road, who was charged with impaired driving as the result of an incident, April 28. The main argument in Blondfield’'s defense, at West Vancouver Provincial court, on Wednesday, was that the police had taken an cx- cessive length of time, in olice vindice in WV impaire another radio tower But the lease is contingent upon an agreement by CGE to make space available on the tower for the regional district’s emergency public works communications system at no cost to the district. A report to the District of North Vancouver Council Monday by Alderman Peter Powell indicates that this will be of significant benefit getting Blondfield from where he was stopped, to the West Vancouver police station seven blocks away. West Van Police Con- stable Paul Briggs testified that Blondfield, who was driving a MG convertible, was stopped at about 10.20 p.m. in Park Royal South, because his driving was slightly erratic and because Briggs had warned = him carlicr in the evening not to drive because he was im- paired. Briggs said Blondfield did ngt arrive at the West Van police station for a breathalyster test, until 11 p.m., because he said there were a number of items in and therefore approval was given for a lease of 10 years at nominal rent, with yearly extensions thereafter. The lease agreement will protect the district's interest, and will provide for payment of taxes by Canadian General Electric. Canadian Natio BUT and CHQM alrea have towers on Seymour. Blondfield’s car that had to be safely stored. Briggs also said that the police patrols were too busy that ‘night for him to ask another patrol car to take Blondfield to the station while his property was being secured. In passing sentence Judge Moir said the police did not take excessive time in getting Blondficld to the station because, ‘they were protecting what appeared to be the property of Mr Blondfield.’ Moir fined Blondfield $350 and gave him until October 26 to pay. f They said. they really ‘enjoyed travelling. in.
