Funny, isn’t it, that the scenarios we cherish for our- selves seem seldom to come to fruition, or if they do, there’s a worm somewhere in the apple. And it’s the same thing, seems to me, if we just lie back and take our chances. Life will getcha, one way or another. In my case, it was the ghastly fall that undid all my plans and hurt like the dick- ens and put me round the bend for let’s see, a picce of July, all of August, casing up a bit in September and October and here we are nearly sliding off the end of the year and I’m still some- thing of a mess. But there’s been a change in the last few weeks and it’s all because of the power of a banana. Ora bunch of same. It’s been a few short swecks since my doctor tald me to cat two bananas every day. I was a bit dismayed, fig- ured J’d get fat and have to buy a new wardrobe. But it’s astonishing. T have been slicing one on to my wheaties, for breakfast, and then gnawing on a second one fater in the day, just like any monkey, and [ don’t feel any changes in my girth. ‘Ttried keeping the sec- ond one for dessert after dinner, but I'd forget, and eat the ice-cream or whatev- er and then remember the patient banana. =F am constantly surprised that I don’t feel overloaded after overloading, if you get me, ~ Tean’t remember when | had my first banana — they couldn’t be seen clustered amongst the basic foodstuffs we were able to shap for in vintage years the North. Thase shelves were stocked with cans and oats and bags of chicken feed and the odd coyote skin to wrap your baby- bunting in. J can’t recall bananas at all, or oranges, for that mat- ter, except the lietle “There is a noticeable lack of sodium in bananas and a fair offering of Vitamin C. What more could you ask for?” Christmas variety, wrapped in orange paper — hew come those, I woade:? J doubt any fresh truics would have survis cd the journey in the «inter months anyway. I would guess it was not because his mother cher- ished the amount of potassi- um she was thus loading into him, but, rather, wel- comed the fact thar it came Complete Mechanical ee EGE _ Repairs & Service 183 Pemberton Ave. raLKkinG PAGES YELLOW 985-71 95 Vid?2°;79°8 HomedHealth Services Tor Ban “sometimes Mom needs help at home when we can’t be there. My source (the library) tells me that bananas have been used for a long time to offset the effects of medica- tions people have to take for their blood pressure. Now they've learned that the banana itself works its own control of blood pres- sure —they can forget the medications. Another benefit lies in the fruit’s fibre value, a good deal of which is in itself soluble, The clincher, for the health foik, and for you and me, is that there is a notice- able lack of sodium in bananas and a fair offering of Vitantin C. What more could you ask for? The book telfs me tes leok for the yellow ones, the ones that have no brown spots, and it says that you’re best co buy them by the bunch. Bananas on their own won't fast as long as those in a bunch. They last longer, that way. Let them sit around in the kitchen until they are 3 proper yellow colour, but once they look ready to cat you should put them in the fridge. The skin will turn black if you leave them there for a while, but it won't make any difference to the inside flesh. You can bake bananas, and you can also freeze them and eat them like a popsicle or make a trozen dessert. They're low-fat as well as flaunting all those other blessings to your interior mechanism.
