Toynbees share Borneo tales By Robert Galster News Reporter robert@nsnews.com MANSON Toynbee made a triumphant return to West Vancouver when the formes resident Kept a date at the West Vancouver Memorial Library earlier this month, The occasion was a book signing to promote his book, Jungle Schools, Letters from Sarawak, 1958-1965. Accompanied by his wife Mary, his apnearance includ- ed readings from the book and an opportunity to meet and chat with several of the people to whom letters included in the book were written. While in Borneo, several of Manson’s letters were published in the Lions Gate Times. The Toynbee’s stay in Borneo was centred around Manson’s job as a teacher on the far-away island. He also had a hand in establishing new schools to the region. Although originally hail- ing from West Vancouver, the couple row reside on Salt Spring Island.
