Exciting Changes at the College ince becoming president of Capilano College in March 1995, | have had the pleasure of participating in many exciting changes that will positively affect our college and the communities it serves. Through these changes, the College has not lost sight of the reason we are here. That reason is reflected in our new mission and values statement: “to provide an important resource in the educational, economic and cultural life of alt the communities we serve.” The new statement continues the tradition of putting our students’ needs first. To supplement govemment funding, Capilano Cotlege has created new partnerships which will allow us to continue to provide innovative programming. As the end of the century approaches, the College is charged with transmitting and creating knowledge and preparing people for productive and rewarding careers as wiil fit the changing economic and technological! conditions. One of these valued partnerships was recently entered into with ICBC. We provided that organization with the resources necessary {o upgrade their employee's computer skills. As well, the College recently hosted the first Burrard Band Treaty negotiations and will be holding a public forum April 3 to discuss these negotiations. On our three campuses, local community members share our library facilities, enjoy theatre, music, art exhibits, recreational and competitive sports, and provocative guest lecturers. Off campus, members of the College proyide free services through our speakers bureau. The College is presently in the midst of a major fundraising campaign to. equip a new 350-seat performance theatre under construction at our North Vancouver campus. it's a challenging process, but one that will benefit our communities and students far into the future. It will be housed in the new student services and classroom building scheduled to open within the coming year. Taking into account all the recent and ongoing events, { trust that _.
