PeeWee’s to meet best of the rest FRESH FROM a successful trip to the Quebec Interna- tional tournament, the North Vancouver Taylor- motive PeeWee AAA hockey team (North Van- couver) is off to Cranbrook next week for the provincial championships, after the team won the Greater Van- couver Conference title with three straight come-from- behind victories. In the first game, North Van _ fallied from a 2-0 deficit, scoring six consecutive goals and winning 6-3 over the Vancouver Thunder- -birds. Gram- Smith scored twice for North Van with singles coming from Rob Nikkel, Scott Hewson, Drew Barker and J.J. Martin. Game two saw North Van fall behind 5-1 at the end of the se- cond period against Burnaby Winter Club. But in the third period, North Van rallied with four unanswered goals and won the game 18 se- conds into overtime on a goal by Hewson. It was Hewson’s third goal. Other scorers were Kelly Sickavish, Martin and Barker. The third game was against a tough Richmond team who had also won their first two games. Once again North Van _ fell behind 2-0. They then scored four con- secutive goals and hung on for an exciting 5-4 win. The penalty-filled matched featured two goals from Jason Maxwell, with singles coming from Hewson, Smith and Mark Stewart. Lightning win Atom AAA crown THE NORTH Shore Winter Club Atom AAA Lightning team brought the Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association’s Greater Van- couver Conference champi- onship banner home to the North Shore after a long weekend of fast-paced playoff hockey action: In the opening game of the round-robin series against the Burnaby Winter Club, the Light- ning took an early lead’ and were up 4-0 at the end of the second period. Burnaby rallied back with three goals in the third to give the Lightning a scare. However, the local team hung on and won 4-3. The Lightning came very close to tying the score in the dying minutes of the third period but had to be content with a 5-6 loss. Eric Peter-Kaiser put in an out- standing performance in goal for the Lightning.
