WV Cantata Singers set to Open season WEST VANCOUVER’S Cantata Singers fed by James Fankhauser opens its new season this Sunday at the Hotel Vancouver Ballroom, with guest duo pianists Ralph Markham and Kenneth Broadway. The Lions Bay duo have per- formed in more than 30 recitals a year, making a name for themselves as first-rate ensemble musicians. They recently capped off three consecutive years of per- formances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in col- laboration with Yehudi Menuhin. Next year theyll be featured soloists with the Philharmonia Hungarica in a three-week tour of the U.S. eastern seaboard. Fankhauser returns to conduct after a year-long sabbatical. In addition to accompanying the choir in the lush Licbeslieder Waltzes of Brahms, Markham and Broadway will perform ‘travin- sky’s Petrushka in a duzzling transcription for piano — four hands. The choir will also perform, for the first time, a new work for choir and wind quintet written by Vancouver composer/pianist/ singer, Ramona Luengen. The Winds of Vancouver, an ensemble of principal wind players from the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, is making its first appearance with the Cantata Singers.
