Local filmmaker studies aging A NORTH Vancouver man is among those working to bring the process of aging into the eye of the public. Gerald Hodge is a principal of Spindlekin Productions, a local independent film company that specializes in films on aging. Currently, it is developing a series of TV films on ethnicity and aging called Unbroken Thread, under grants from B.C.’s Knowl- edge Network and the Saskat- chewan Communications Advanc- ed Network. Also underway is a project to develop a video that will case the NORTH SHORE HOME SUPPORT SERVICES SOCIETY a non-profit society serving the North Shore since 1963 HOMEMAKER PROGRAM Provides skilled Home Support Workers for household maintenance, personal care assistance and meal preparation. HOME NURSING PROGRAM Provides care in the home with a private duty nurse. RESPITE PROGRAM Provides companionship to housebound individuals and relief to caregivers responsible for a family member. Unbroken Thread will explore the human process of growing old, through the stories and expe- riences of Canadian elders. Composed of four half-hour episodes, each program will focus on clders of a different cultural group, including Chinese elders from Nanaimo, [talians from Trail, Doukhobors from Castlegar and Native Indian elders from Bella Coola, Explored will be the manner in which these cultures nurture and support their members as they grow old, as well as difficulties brought by the aging process. Production on the series will begin in the fall, with the com- pleted episodes ready to air in the spring of 1992, Hodge is an Adjunct Professor in Gerontology at Simon Fraser University, writer of the film Where the City and Water Meet, and member of the B.C.
