The following is a sample of the many volunteer oppor- tunities available to you through the North Shore Information and Volunteer Centre. PET owners are wanted to visit seniors in hospitals and private facilities, with their pets. Volun- teer should be reliable, sociable and able to handle stress. Train- ing, a one-hour interview and test for pet, as well as an orientation session will be provided. Hours are flexible, one hour at a time at volunteer's and facility’s conve- nience. THEATRE enthusiasts are needed by a cultural society for a variety of interesting duties. An usher who is able to stay for the entire evening is needed to hand out programs, show people to their seats and sell bar tickets. Orientation is the first Thursday of every month. Actual hours are evenings 7 to 10 p.m. Also needed are stage hands to help with scenery, costumes, sound equipment and dressing ac- tors during the runs of various plays. Hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. On weekends stage hands are needed to assist with setting up the stage, scenery, props and to work with the producer. Hours are flexible weekends. This is an excellent op- portunity to acquire theatre skills, and volunteers will also attend Soft one Lenses HOUR SERVICE Extended wear $155 performances free of charge. Ori- entation provided. PUBLIC relations representative is wanted to assist with the PR for a Parents in Crisis group. Volun- teer will establish liaisons with community and government organizations, maintain contact with critical links in the communi- ty, hand out brochures and give presentations. Hours are flexible Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m, PERFORMERS. Share your skis in puppeteering, music, drama, woodcarving, mime, etc. with groups of energetic children aged five to nine. Hours are flexi- ble weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. AUXILIARY of Lions Gate Hospital needs volunteers for flower shop, library, public rela- tions, thrift shop and other service areas. Volunteer should be reliable and enjoy working with people. Flexible hours. EMPATHETIC driver is wanted to transport patients from their homes in North Vancouver to the cancer clinic on West 10th Avenue in Vancouver. A reliable car and good listening skills are required to fill this position. Gas costs will be reimbursed. Hours are flexible two to three hours per week.
