Reform Party or what its purpose might be. “It has no relationship with the Reform Party of Canada,’’ he said. ‘If it has been (revived), it has been done unilaterally.’” Earlier this year Alberta Premier Don Getty held an unsanctioned province-wide senatorial election in that province. A requirement of that election was that a candidate for the Senate had to be a member of a registered provincial party. A major policy of the Reform party is Senate reform through the implementation of an elected up- per house. . The Reform Party of Canada consequently formed the Reform Party of Alberta in order to run a senatorial candidate. Reform Party of Alberta can- didate Stan Waters won 41.5 per cent of the senatorial vote in that province, and is currently awaiting appointment to the Senate by Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. The Reform Party of B.C. was registered under the B.C. Society’s Act in 1983, four years before the formation of the Reform Party of Canada, but had been inactive un- til recently. North Vancouver resident Ron Gamble, one of five Reform Party of B.C, directors, said the party’s. revival is primarily to provide a vehicle for 2 Reform Party can- didate to run in a B.C. senate elec- tion. But Shaw said the requirements for such an election in B.C. have yet to be laid out because a senate election has not been called by Premier Bill Vander Zalm.
