CALLING ALL experienced
swimmers — holders of Red Cross
Water Safety Instructor 1 award
and Lifesaving certification are
qualified to take the Water Safety
Instructor H course.

The Water Safety Instructor
training program, now in two
levels, produces professionals — in
skills and attitudes.

Ic helps swimmers to reach their
potential and is geared to meet ca-
reer goals. It makes professional
leadership development more ac-
cessible to more people.

A Red Cross Water Safety In-
structor If is qualified to teach and
evaluate all levels of the Red Cross
Water Safety Program (Yellow,
Orange, Red, Maroon, Blue.
Green, Grey, White and Survival).

To be eligible for the Instructor
iJ course, candidates must have
successfuily completed the Water
Safety Instructor I course and the
White level of the Red Cross
Water Safety program.

Candidates must also have a
minimum of 10 hours of practical
instructional experience and hold a
current Royal Life Saving Society
Bronze Medallion or its equivalent.

Instructor candidates learn
teaching techniques, safety super-
vision, learn-to-swim and safety
skill progressions, communication,
class management, lesson plan-
ning, safety education methods
and stroke and skill technique.

The Red Cross Water Safety In-
structor Ii award is highly regard-
ed by recreation professionals and
is a requirement for employment at
most aquatic facilities,

A Red Cross Water Safety In-
structor I course is being offered
March 26 to April ! at the William
Griffin Pool in North Vancouver
and at the West Vancouver Aquat-
ic Centre in March. Phone 986-
