Babe Ruth baseball
swings to 3ist year

THE North Vancouver Baseball
Association is gearing up for its
31st year.

The local Babe Ruth program is
part of an international organiza-
tion that promotes the physical
and mental] development of youth.

Besides just serving youns
players on the field, Babe Ruth of-
fers information, publications and
films to colleges, universities,
schools, civic and service clubs.

Babe Ruth offers mature
coaches and managers as well as a
consistent full executive who have
been with the program for many
years.

Fundraising is provided by the
league’s concession operated al
Mahon Park.

Because of its successful 1985
season, the league has been able to
reduce the Junior fees (13 yrs. to
15 yrs),to $20 if players are regis-
tered by March 8 at the Babe Ruth
registration booth at the North
Vancouver Recreation Centre,
23rd and Lonsdale between | and 4
p.m.

CARSON Graham Eagles
women's basketball team advanced
to the 1986 B.C. Championships
with a 66-65 victory over Burnaby
Central Wildwomen Feb. 21 to
clinch third place in the Crehan
Cup - Lower Mainland Finals.

Carson Graham won their open-
ing round match against Richmond
Colts but were set back by New
Westminster in the semi-finals.
Carson bounced back with a vic-
tory over Prince of Wales to place
in the consulation final.

The Eagles travel to the Men-
nonite Education Institute to com-
pete in the *tAA’’ championships
March 5 to 8.

The Junior Belles won the silver
meda! in a Saskatoon tournament
while the Tweens finished second
in their division.

Junior Belle and Tween B's
meanwhile participated in an
Osoyoos tournament and both
won a silver medal.

Junior Belle Erin Sackney was
awarded the Friendship Medal.
The Tween B parents were given
an award for being the most sup-
portive fans.

Belle B’s also participated in an
Edmonton tournament recently
and while they didn’t bring home a
medal, they gained valuable expe-
rience.

Tween B's, back from Gsoyoos,
won their game over PoCo 6-4
with Nicole Mackay scoring a hat
trick, Tanie Goodbrand. Uhona
Mauch and Erica Molinsky added
singles.

Senior players, age 16-18, play
in an interlocking schedule with
five other Lower Mainland teams.
In 1986, the Junior Division has
been invited to participate in a
similar interlocking schedule.
Players will enjuy a competitive
tuurnament trial that begins at the
district, level for each chartered
