Over the past 15 years, this has been a major event for youngsters in the Forest Hills area and their parents. FROM PAGE B4 Canada. With Rick as captain, the team went on to win three national wheelchair titles. Simultaneously, he was involved in basketball, where his provincial team won four national titles in five years. In the following years, Rick directed his athletic efforts towards marathons. In 1979 and 1980, he was awarded the Physically Disabled Athlete of the Year Award. He has a Bachelor of Physical Education, University of B.C., the first disabled person to complete this program. Lenny Marriott was disabled by polio at age 1%. Despite his disability he became interested in sports, taking part in Lite League baseball and track and field at an early age. At age 12 Lenny started weightlifting which ultimately led to his in- volvement with the Wheelchair Sports Association in 1976 and subsequent participation in major sports events in- cluding marathon, power lifting, body building and karate Running to stop hunger On Sunday. This is also the day that each team lines up for their photographs to be taken. It’s important that each team player is in at- tendance and in uniform. With over 15 years ex- ENTRY FORM: perience in handling opening day ceremonies, the logistics are not as horrendous as would appear. The president of Forest Hills Little League, John Wittig takes the big event in his stride now. He can afford to due the help he has from over 125 parents who act as_ umpires, coaches, managers scorekeepers and ground- skeepers. The day always’ runs smoothly and gives everyone a true feeling of community that is so prevalent on the North Shore. Although the opening day is Saturday, April 23rd, some games will have already been played leading up to Saturday to accomodate the = tight schedule in the coming months. Here is the breakdown for the entire league this year. There are 6 T-Ball teams, 4 Pee Wee teams, 4 Major and Minor league teams, 4 Pony “A” and 4 Pony “B” teams plus 2 Colt teams.
