Atgyle Pipers, hitherto the
penalty-kick kings of the
. B.C. ‘senior. boys soccer
league, battled their. way toa
1-1 draw and. a. split’
championship with Oak Bay
Bays in Saturday’s final at
Royal Athletic Park, Victoria
—with no penalty kicks to
resolve the winner.

The game was called after
90 minutes of regulation play
and two 10-minute overtime
periods failed to. break the
tie.

For both the Pipers and
the Bays it was their first

ever provincial soccer title, |

albeit shared.

The - Pipers’ reputation
came from three earlier
crucial games on their way to
the top. They won the
Burnaby-North Shore No. 2
berth to the B.C. tourney by
beating Burnaby Central on
penalty kicks in their zone

- Then, last Friday, Areyle
repeated its technique by
stopping North Surrey ‘on
penalty kicks after both
- teams were tied with identi-

cal records. This put the

Pipers into the semi-final
against Rutland and, once
more, they won 4-2 on:
