Lifeboat delivers
transplant patient

A two-year wait for a
liver transplant donor
came to an end when a
local resident received a
call on his cell phone
late Tuesday evening,
Aug. 22.

Only one problem — the
patient was on board his 27-
foot sailboat anchored in Port
Graves, Gambier Island.

Rescue Co-ordination
Centre was contacted and
alerted the crew of Coast
Guard: Auxiliary 1, Howe
Sound Lifeboat.

The North Shore Lifeboat

Sociezy-owned vessel departed
Fisherman’s Cove at 11:30
p.m. with coxswain Cliff Jones
and crew members Jamie
McJannet, Randy Strandt, and
David Rees-Thomas.

Thirty = minutes _ later
Auxiliary, I was on its way to
Kitsilano Coast Guard Base
with the patient on board. On
arrival at Kits Base the patient
was transferred to a waiting
ambulance for the short trip to
hospital.

One crew
remained with the patient's
wife to assist in returning the
sailboat to its home berth.

spree in which he vandalized
12 doctors’ offices because
they had refused his request to
erform prostate biopsies on
fim without a medical reason
for doing so. According to
police, an enraged Murphy
went from office to office,
breaking windows and spray-
ing black paint over the urolo-
gists’ signs. One doctor,
expressing prevailing medical
ractice, told a reporter that
¢ wouldn't do the procedure
unless some alarming sign sur-
faced because the procedure
“is pretty invasive.”
