A West Vancouver woman has
been charged with excessive
speeding and driving without
due care and attention in con-
nection with the death of a ferry
traffic worker near Horseshoe
Bay in April.

Joglie Thompson, 25, is charged under
the Motor Vehicle Act.

Victoria resident Michael David
Wiedeman died on April 5 after he was hit
by a 1985 Ford Bronco in the 4600-biock
of the Trans Canada Highway.

Wiedeman, 33, was directing traffic
near the ferry terminal at the time. He was
employed by Van Isle Traffic Services,
under contract with B.C. Ferries Corp.

Charge laid in highway death

Vancouver Police said that Wiedeman was
standing with a co-worker on the shoul-
der of the road when he was hit by the
sports ublity truck.

Police said the truck spun out of con-
trol near the Caulfeild exit before hitting
the man. The co-worker escaped with an
elbow injury as she tried to get out of the
Bronco’s way. Thompson is slated to
appear in West Vancouver provincial court
on Nov. 25.
