MAILBOX Bowen Snug Cove plans were developed by island residents Dear Editor: Re: John E. Pierce’s recent let- ter in the News on planning for Snug Cove on Bowen Island. It is indeed remarkable how a recently arrived renter can be so informed about actions that oc- curred years before he arrived here — unless, of course, he is fronting for one of those who op- pose any well-thought-out solution to the problems we face in the Cove — the ‘vocal minority,” that is. For years, these people have been trying to discredit any for- ward progress here on the island. Unfortunately, the vocal minority Oppose everything and offer nothing positive to solve our problems. Just because one recent arrival doesn’t like the plan for the Cove is no reason to stop plans that have emerged after a heated and Passionate debate that has been going on since the early 1980s, years in which concepts, pro- posals, solutions, compromises, Bus trash disgusts Dear Editor: While awaiting an eastbound bus at the intersection of Marine Drive and Pemberton in North Van today | noticed that I was surrounded by a virtual mountain of disgusting trash, no doubt left behind by departing passengers. I'm not talking about today’s trash — this stuff has been col- lecting for days and weeks, and it’s piled up right against the front walls of the two stores. But the real problem is the lax and careless attitude of the two Stores fronting the bus stop. { suggest that North and West Van district councils enforce a law that will require all commercial businesses to keep their frontage sidewalk clear of teash or face a stiff fine. Let’s clean it up, OK? Murray Grant North Vancouver Mailbox policy WHEN SENDING a letter to the editor, be sure to include your name, written legibly, your full address and your telephone number. If John Pierce is too lazy, or too manipulated by others, to find out what has in fact occurred, then his comments deserve to be ignored. I'm not about to put aside the months and years of time that I, and scores of others here on the island, put into the plan for Snug Cove just because of the ravings of a recent renter — a person with no stake in this community. Many of the ideas and pro- posals criticized have been around for a very long time. Most of the concepts for the Cove were origi- nally developed by Bowen residents and have been the sub- & personal injury @ wage loss @ medical costs &@ future care and Winter Season is the Fall Inspection. &: A. They have been studied by Islands Trust planners, GVRD Parks planners and by specially trained planners hired with GVRD funds. There has been public input all along the way. What we nece! now is action to put these concepts into effect — to get on with solving our prob- lems and making the Cove a rea- sonable, workable, safe, efficient and beautiful place in keeping with the scale and style typified by the Old Store. This is our goal, despite the name calling and ac- cusations of an increasingly des- perate minority.
