INLENWS BRIEFS RCMP seek murder clues SQUAMISH RCMP have assembled an cight-member team of in- vestigators in an attempt (o make sense of Sunday's Sunset Beach stabbing death of 73-year-old Kathleen Kermode. While police have received numerous tips from the public, there have thus far been no breaks in the case. Said Squamish RCMP Sgt. Rod Derouin, ‘‘Tips have been com- ing in from all over the place — neighbors, people who knew her, people who drive the highways.”’ Police have interviewed a number of people already. *‘Every time you have an incident like this, you bring up people who have re- cords of violence and who live in the area. You track them all down and talk to them all and find out where they were. But we have nothing to suggest that any of them did this. They're not suspects, they’re leads we're following up on."’ Police dog tracks down goods WEST VANCOUVER Police dog Razz and his handler helped track down a cache of stolen items March 7 after being calied in to assist in a North Vancouver RCMP break and enter investigation. Police had already arrested a suspect linked to a break and enter in the 1100-block of West 20th Street. Razz was called in at 5:25 p.m. to locate stolen property dropped by the fleeing suspect. The police dog began tracking in the 1300-block of West 18th Street, the point at which RCMP officers had last seen the suspect carrying a large blue bag. Razz found the bag stashed beneath a Honda parked in the 1300-block West of 17th Street. The bag contained a VCR, a Nintendo game, numerous bottles of liquor and other items with a total estimated value of $1,000. Mian jailed five days A 20-YEAR-OLD Surrey man was sentenced March 1 in North Vancouver provincia! court to five days in jail after he was found guilty of driving while he was prohibited by a court order from do- ing so. Dean Stuart Richardson was originally charged in connection with an Oct. 9, 1989 incident. Youths arrested for theft TWO YOUTHS were arrested March 2 after West Vancouver Police dog Razz and his handler were called in to track down a purse stolen from a business in the 1500-block of Bellevue Avenue. The suspects arrested had been previously seen in the beach area between 15th and 16th Street. Razz, instructed to search for a pusse, began tracking in the beach area. The dog searched from 16th Street eastbound and located a black lambskin purse hidden under a large log. Vien face B&E charges TWO MEN face break and enter charges as a result of information provided to North Vancouver RCMP by an alert citizen. On March 7, a home in the Upper Lonsdale area was burglar- ized. As a result of a tip, (wo suspects were located and stoten property was recovered. Facing charges of break and enter are 23-year-old Patrick Natrall of North Vancouver and 22-year-old David Glen Guerrero of no fixed address. Seniors get funds THE NORTH Shore’s Capilano Towers Social Club was recently awarded $4,488 through the New Horizons Program. Said Capilano-Howe Sound MP Mary Collins, who is also the Associate Minister of National Defence and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, ‘‘The monies allocated to the Capilano Towers Social Club will contribute in the development of new activi- ties for about 100 senior citizens." The proposed activities will in- clude shuffleboard, billiards, games and exercise programs. The New Horizons Program was developed in 1972 to encourage retired citizens to become more in- volved in community activities.
