The Jone suspect was last seen running from the station along 24th Street. West Vancouver Police describe the suspect as a white male ap- proximately 19 years old, five-foot nine inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. The slender man had brown, wavy collar-length hair, a fair complexion and was wearing a blue sweater, blue jeans and runn- ing shoes. Police believe the suspect may also have been involved in a simi- lar robbery earlier Monday in Vancouver. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to con- tact the West Vancouver Police Criminal Investigation Division at 922-4141. Local arrested in drug raid A NORTH Vancouver man is one of seven persons arrested fol- lowing an RCMP drug raid that resulted in the seizure of approx- imately eight tons of high-grade marijuana. Adrian Swanton, 41, was released on bail Friday after he and the other six accused appeared in Vancouver provincial court. The seven were remanded to Oct. 2 to fix a date for a pretimi- nary hearing on charges of conspirecy to import marijuana and possession of the drug for the purposes of trafficking. The drugs were seized Sept. 13 aboard the Supreme Number One, a vessel docked in Ladner, B.C. RCMP Staff Set. L.D. “Smokey” Stovern estimated the street value of the drug to be $40 million. Sex assault charge laid A 34-YEAR-OLD Vancouver man appeared Sept. 16 in North Vancouver provincial court to face a charge of sexual assault. Edwin Jayakody Amarakone was originally charged in connec- tion with a Sept. 8 incident in which he is alleged to have assaulted another male. Appearing before Judge J.K. Shaw, Amarakone was remanded to Sept. 24 to stand trial on the charge. Officers accused of negligence THE LAWYER representing George Kwok in a $1.5 million dam- age suit launched against the B.C. Ferry Corp. and two of its senior officers accused the officers sboard the ferry Queen of Cowichan of fabricating a story to cover their negligence. John Laxton told Justice George Cumming Friday in B.C. Supreme Court the evidence given by ferry captain Wayne Holmes and second-officer William Chemko that Kwok’s Kimberly pleasure craft swerved into the path of the ferry immediately prior to the Aug. 12, 1985 collision between the two vessels was designed to shift blame for the tragedy to Kwok. He said because weather conditions at the time of the collision were calm and clear, the officers could not claim fog as the reason for the accident, and, because the Kimberly was the only vessel in a 10-square-mile area at the time, the officers could not blame the accident on the inability of the ferry to manoeuvre in heavy traffic. Laxton said the evidence against 2 course change by the Kimber- ly was overwhelming, and suggested the ferry officers were recklessly negligent and arrogant in attempting to use the Queen of Cowichan’s horn to blast the Kimberly out of the water rather than reversing the ferry. ‘ Kwok’s wife and two of his three sons were killed in the early- morning Kimberly-Queen of Cowichan collision which occurred in waters off Whytecliff Point. Holmes has testified during the trial that he first saw the 33-foot Kimberly approximately one mile away as the Queen of Cowichan was heading into Horseshoe Bay. Kwok’s boat, he said, was heading in the same direction as the ferry, but suddenly veered on- to a collision course with the ferry. The trial continues.
