Vacationing with others’ kids adds responsibility

WHEN OUR children were younger we did a lot.of car
travel. Quite often one of the girls’ friends would be invited
along as well — on one memorable occasion we headed for
California for three weeks with four kids and a dog. We
came back with four kids, a dog and a cat.

1 doubt if the awesome respon-
sibility we were assuming ever
crossed our minds. I can't recall
ever questioning if our young guest
had extended medical coverage or
what responsibility we could
assume in case of accident or inju-
ry.

car trip this summer with our son
who is 11. He is begging to take
along his bes friend and we are
wertainly considering it.
{ However, we have some con-
cerns. First, how would you sug-
gest we handle the extra costs in-
volved? I really can’t see us affor-

two weeks — we aren't campers so
it’s restaurants all the way.
